What is XAUEUR?

XAUEUR represents the price of gold quoted in euros. XAU is the internationally recognised code for one troy ounce of gold, while EUR represents the euro. The XAUEUR price therefore shows how many euros are required to represent the value of one troy ounce of gold.

Unlike XAUUSD, which measures gold against the US dollar, XAUEUR combines movements in the global gold market with changes in the value of the euro. This makes the instrument particularly relevant for traders following both precious metals and European financial markets.

With FxGrow, traders can access XAUEUR through Gold CFDs, allowing them to follow movements in the price of gold against the euro without taking physical ownership of the underlying metal.

What Influences the XAUEUR Price?

The price of XAUEUR can be affected by both gold-specific factors and movements in the euro.

Gold itself may respond to changes in global interest rates, inflation expectations, central bank demand, geopolitical uncertainty and investor risk sentiment. At the same time, changes in the strength of the euro can directly affect the XAUEUR quotation.

Important factors traders may monitor include:

  • European Central Bank monetary policy

  • Euro-area interest-rate expectations

  • European inflation data

  • Economic growth across the euro area

  • Changes in the strength of the euro

  • Global gold demand

  • Central bank gold purchases

  • Bond yields and real interest rates

  • Geopolitical developments

  • Global market risk sentiment

Because XAUEUR combines two important market components, its price can sometimes behave differently from gold quoted against the US dollar.

How Does the Euro Affect XAUEUR?

Currency movements can play an important role in XAUEUR.

If the euro strengthens while the underlying international price of gold remains relatively stable, the price of gold measured in euros may decline. Conversely, a weaker euro can contribute to a higher XAUEUR quotation.

For this reason, traders analysing XAUEUR may follow both the global gold market and developments affecting the euro, including European Central Bank decisions, inflation reports and major euro-area economic indicators.

When is XAUEUR Most Active?

Gold is traded across major international financial sessions throughout the trading week. XAUEUR can experience increased activity during European and US trading hours, when participation in both the euro and global precious metals markets tends to be stronger.

European Central Bank announcements, euro-area inflation figures, economic growth data and major global economic releases may also contribute to periods of increased volatility.

Traders should consult the FxGrow Trading Hours and applicable holiday schedules for current trading sessions.

Why Do Traders Follow XAUEUR?

XAUEUR allows traders to analyse the value of gold from a euro-denominated perspective. This can be particularly useful for traders following European monetary policy, inflation and currency movements alongside developments in the global gold market.

The instrument can also behave differently from XAUUSD because changes in the EUR/USD exchange rate can affect the relative value of gold when quoted in euros.

Traders may therefore use XAUEUR to monitor broader themes involving precious metals, European monetary policy, inflation, currency markets and global economic uncertainty.

Trading Gold CFDs involves significant risk, and leverage can increase both potential gains and potential losses. Traders should carefully consider their objectives, experience and risk tolerance and apply appropriate risk management when trading XAUEUR.
